Some days are just awful. You know when you get out of bed that you might as well have stayed there. Then there are the days like I had yesterday. I had a full day scheduled. A doctors appointment was first on the list. While at the doctors; the nurses, receptionist and assistants all just went [...] I’m usually cold in the winter. I am always bundled up with a good pair of hand knitted socks, a nice sweater and a rice bag. Oh yeah, don’t forget Mason, the ever faithful source of heat/Boston Terrier. But I must admit that it took a little convincing to get me to knit woolie pulleys. [...] I wasn’t always this way. I used to shop yarn by price and weight. “A 4oz skein should cost about $3.00”. I crocheted happily along for years like this, completely unaware that there were choices. When I did discover other fibers I hastily dismissed them as ridiculously overpriced. When you need 8 or more for [...] I have always wanted to recreate this afghan that Grandma made for me as an engagement gift, 30 years ago. She passed away before I had the chance to learn the pattern, which was in her head. Anyone out there know what it’s called? Know where I can find the pattern? I would be eternally [...] I’m sure you know someone who talks with their hands. My family expresses themselves with their hands. It’s fun to watch people. See if you can tell what they are saying even though you can’t hear them. Have you ever watched a gifted musician play their instrument? The ones that really get into it. They close [...] I am so excited to announce a new member of the family. Blondi D’Bouvier arrived via UPS on Wednesday of last week. Yes, my new spinning wheel. THANKS MOM AND POP! They all get names. My husband suggested Dizzy Blond. She is made of maple and has a natural stain, so she is very light. And [...] I’ve been carding the Coopworth fleece from Hidden Valley. It is really beautiful. Very lustrous. The sheen is incredible. washed, uncarded I have about 1/3 of the 9+ pounds of raw fleece ready to spin. I decided when I got up this morning that is was such a nice day that I just had to take advantage of it. And how does a crazy fiber addict do that? By scouring her fleece and hanging it to dry, of course. I had about half of the 9#’s I got from Hidden Valley [...] Remember when you were little and you’d spin around and around until you fell down? Or sit on the swing and wind it up and lift your feet and “weeeee” around you’d go. How about the merry-go-round? Hang on tight so you don’t fly off, especially if a big kid was pushing! You’d go so [...] Good yarn requires patience. And why put your efforts and talent into anything but? Learning to speak the language of your yarn or “fiber-ese” is tricky yet vital to your success.
