Some days are just awful. You know when you get out of bed that you might as well have stayed there. Then there are the days like I had yesterday. I had a full day scheduled. A doctors appointment was first on the list. While at the doctors; the nurses, receptionist and assistants all just went [...] The sky is as blue today as I’ve seen it in a long time. Granted I have been holed up inside shivering and grumbling about winter. I opened the curtains to my office window. From the low vantage point at my desk, I wouldn’t know it wasn’t spring…except for the fact that the trees are [...] I’m usually cold in the winter. I am always bundled up with a good pair of hand knitted socks, a nice sweater and a rice bag. Oh yeah, don’t forget Mason, the ever faithful source of heat/Boston Terrier. But I must admit that it took a little convincing to get me to knit woolie pulleys. [...] I wasn’t always this way. I used to shop yarn by price and weight. “A 4oz skein should cost about $3.00”. I crocheted happily along for years like this, completely unaware that there were choices. When I did discover other fibers I hastily dismissed them as ridiculously overpriced. When you need 8 or more for [...] I’m sure you know someone who talks with their hands. My family expresses themselves with their hands. It’s fun to watch people. See if you can tell what they are saying even though you can’t hear them. Have you ever watched a gifted musician play their instrument? The ones that really get into it. They close [...] Good yarn requires patience. And why put your efforts and talent into anything but? Learning to speak the language of your yarn or “fiber-ese” is tricky yet vital to your success. Maybe I can help. The dialogue really should start in the yarn shop. Walk into your favorite shop and stop. Close you eyes. Yes, close [...] I’ve never been one to shy away from hard work. I can remember my parents coming home from work (2nd shift nurses) to find me scrubbing the ceiling in the kitchen. I was probably 14. Or taking a toothbrush to the bathroom tile. There is just something about the satisfaction I get from a job [...] I have been in a bit of a slump lately. My fiber creativeness has reached a new low. I don’t know what it is, but I just haven’t been in the mood. I guess you could call it fiber block (I think there is a pun there…). I’ve got a spinning wheel sitting there just [...] Winter and summer; in many ways, these seasons are similar. I find myself inside today with a headache. It’s very warm (88 at 11am) and there is an air quality alert. That doesn’t play nice with my asthma. The curtains are drawn to keep the hot south sun out of the living room. It feels [...] My daughter is amazing. She manages a full time school schedule in pre-pharmacy, 3 part time jobs, being an awesome parent to a 4 year old and keeps a household running smoothly (mostly organic and very green). Of course she doesn’t realize that she is an awesome Mom, or that her household runs smoothly. She [...] |
