I’ve been carding the Coopworth fleece from Hidden Valley. It is really beautiful. Very lustrous. The sheen is incredible.
washed, uncarded
I have about 1/3 of the 9+ pounds of raw fleece ready to spin.
Drum carder
After running it through the carder a few times, you get a batt like this…
(Check out this great You-tube video about using the carder.)
ready to spin
From here it gets spun and plied into a skein like this…
finished skein
About Charlotte…That’s my wheel. She is an Ashford Traveler, and I have put a few miles on her, I’ll tell you. Mom got her used and gave her to me to learn on. It’s been a few years now. I think Charlotte was a kit wheel that came un-assembled and unfinished. Some of the groves for the tension bands are a bit rough and tend to fray the bands to shreds. This makes for some frustrating spinning. So all along I have been making due with the groves that were smooth enough. That’s okay except it meant that I had to peddle faster than usual to get enough spin into the fiber to produce the yarn I wanted.
Today I decided to borrow my daughter’s Lendrum. I mentioned this to my Mom and she told me not to…she said she is looking for a new wheel for me! OH GOODY! I’m so excited! I can’t wait! I’ll card the rest of my Coopworth while I’m waiting. And I’ll have to think of a name. They all have names.
Maybe Charlotte needs to live with another beginner spinner for a while. Hmmm, I have someone in mind…Miss Katie?

Speechless…..
I’ll come and clean after this week!
Will you be at the meeting on Fri? I’ll forward the newsletter to your email. Hope to see you soon. G
