Everybody knows a Fred

I love to go people watching. Mostly I do this while grocery shopping or running errands. I’m not a crowd person, so I know my data is skewed!

Think back for a moment…how far back depends on how old you are. Fred Flintstone, Wilma, Barney, Betty. Hanna/Barbera hit the nail on the head with these characters. [...]

Planet in Apparel

This is a story I wrote to commemorate my Mom’s 3 year survival of breast cancer. I am always looking for comic relief.

Planet in Apparel

Once upon a time…this is a fairy tale and that’s how fairy tales start…there was a beautiful planet named Jeanne…This is kind of a sci-fi fairy tale…It had rivers, valleys, [...]

I can't do it alone

I dreamt last night that my son Andrew attacked and seriously injured the Pope. This attack happened in front of the Catholic elementary school that I attended. I called 911, but only medical people responded to care for the Pope. So I called the police directly. They told me that they were under-funded and had [...]

A Bad Day For Breathing

When I was young we played outside from the crack of dawn until after dark in the summer. By the time we went to bed we were exhausted, usually still pretty dirty (unless we had been swimming in the nearby lake or playing in the sprinkler), but healthy. All day long we breathed deeply the [...]

Princess PITA

Actually her name is Daisy. She is my cat. PITA is an acronym for Pain In The A**. She is that.

Yesterday I was so fed-up and disgusted with her messes that I actually filled out the “surrender your animal” paperwork online for the Wisconsin Humane Society. I have never surrendered an animal. I have adopted [...]

SAD in the summer

Winter and summer; in many ways, these seasons are similar. I find myself inside today with a headache. It’s very warm (88 at 11am) and there is an air quality alert. That doesn’t play nice with my asthma. The curtains are drawn to keep the hot south sun out of the living room. It feels [...]

Shrimp Salsa…OMG!

I had something like this at a restaurant I was at recently. I just had to try and make it myself.

This makes about 4 cups of salsa. It will disappear before your very eyes!

1+ pounds grilled shrimp, peeled etc. and minced (I marinated them in lime juice, olive oil, garlic and cilantro prior to grilling)

1/3 [...]

Father's Day Homage

My father, Michael, died when I was 28. He was a very hard-working dad who always had time to listen or joke around with us, when he wasn’t catching a nap. It’s been almost 20 years since his death. My sisters and I maintain a tradition that we call “Dad Lunch”.

Dad loved to get together [...]

Scott's Favorite Strawberry Shortcake Recipe

Many families define strawberry shortcake as angel food cake with a fresh berry sauce, topped with Cool Whip or ice cream. This is what I always thought of as strawberry shortcake, but something happens to a woman when she gets married. 28 years later…This is how I make strawberry shortcake.

Before you start, put a small [...]

I Love The Farmer's Market

My yard is way too shady to grow most veggies. I have a few tomatoes in buckets behind the garage and I usually stick a few basil plants in between the perennials. But for the most part, I get the good stuff at the West Allis Farmer’s Market.

I expect at this time of the year [...]
